The person on the other end of the phone was adamant, "You cannot get chicken pox more than once!" I really don't like to argue. So I said, "If it is not chicken pox my son needs to be seen immediately."
Well, needless to say we left with a chicken pox diagnosis.
I must take time to say, as a lesson learned, document your child's illness. If he was the firstborn it would be in his baby book with pictures. But, being the fourth his pictures are on some flashdrive somewhere undated. Our pediatrician did take time to explain why some children get the virus more than once. Of course being young and a light case when the child has mother's immunity still (even years after birth), misdiagnosis of a rash or a more serious problem with cell memory. I wish I had recorded dates, had each case documented by a pediatrician and took notes on the severity and the length of course. As well as dated pictures. This will be a full documented case so that if he gets them again we can look at the cell memory issue. The doctor tends to think it is not the case with Nathan because he is a healthy child. But, then again just an hour before...he didn't have chicken pox!
